Castine Road is closed to traffic Sunday with a detour on the Shore Road as firefighters continued to extinguish a wildfire in Penobscot that ignited on Saturday.
Drivers were asked to be on alert for wildlife that is moving because of the fire.
The rapidly moving fire, which spread to about five acres, was reported late Saturday morning, according to the Penobscot Volunteer Fire Department.
It took fire crews about six and a half hours to fully contain the blaze, using two bulldozers, dozens of firefighters and thousands of feet of forestry hose.
When the fire was first reported, the Castine Fire Rescue Department and Orland Fire Departments were called to the scene, along with the Maine Forest Service. Over the course of the next few hours additional departments were called, including those from Bucksport, Blue Hill, Brooklin, Sedgwick, Brooksville, Trenton, Hancock and Sullivan.
