A woman died Monday in a Fort Kent fire.
The fire broke out just after noon at the East Main Street apartment building, according to Fort Kent Fire and Rescue Chief Cole Pelletier.
When crews first arrived, they could not confirm whether every tenant had safely escaped the flames.
As firefighters knocked down the blaze, they discovered a woman inside, and despite efforts to revive her, she succumbed to her injuries.
Her identity has not been made public, pending family notification and the state fire marshal’s office completing its investigation.
