A juvenile was airlifted to Maine Medical Center Friday night after a bicycle collided with a fire truck in Harpswell, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened at about 5:54 p.m., when two juveniles were riding bicycles on Harpswell by the Sea and reportedly failed to stop at the intersection of Cundy’s Harbor Road.
A Cundy’s Harbor Fire Department squad truck was traveling south on Cundy’s Harbor Road when one of the bicycles struck its rear bumper, the sheriff’s office said.
The child sustained serious injuries and was transported to Maine Medical Center by LifeFlight of Maine.
The fire truck operator attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to do so, according to the sheriff’s office.
