Seven people were injured early Saturday morning when a car failed to make a sharp corner, left the road and struck a house, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
Knox Regional Communications Center received the call at about 12:05 a.m. The vehicle, a black 2013 Hyundai Sonata, was traveling south on Spruce Head Road (Route 73) at the intersection with Village Road when it left the road and struck the house.
The driver, Eliza Luce, 20, of Union, sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
A 16-year-old passenger received life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a trauma center.
Five other passengers — Aiden Stalcup, 18, of South Thomaston; Brooklyn Hart, 18, of Belgrade; and three juveniles ages 15, 16 and 17 — sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital.
Another occupant, Michael Sabins, 19, of Liberty, sustained minor injuries but was not transported.
Speed, alcohol and drug use are believed to have contributed to the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.
