The boil water order has been lifted in Bangor.
Workers were set to go door knocking in the Broadway and Essex Street area about 7 a.m. to inform the 900 affected customers that their water was again safe to drink, Bangor Water District General Manager Chuck Harrison told the Bangor Daily News on Friday morning.
It’s not yet known what caused the water main to fail, the third to happen in the area recently. Harrison said Thursday that the district’s records show the pipe was installed in 1970.
The investigation is still ongoing to determine what went wrong, and Harrison said Friday morning is reducing strain on pipes in the area to determine whether the problem is the pipe itself or pressure.
