Republicans shift attacks to Troy Jackson in fight to defend Susan Collins’ Senate seat
In the race to discredit Graham Platner’s replacement, it’s unlikely that Republicans will be delivered anything as opportune as a Nazi tattoo on Troy Jackson, a seasoned state lawmaker whose biggest weakness might be that he’s not exciting enough. Instead, they’re looking to tie the new Democratic nominee to his predecessor before he can get his campaign off the ground.
It’s been just days since Jackson was officially slotted to challenge U.S. Sen. Susan Collins in November. Already Collins’ allies are casting him as “a volatile personality” who has “anger issues with women.” The National Republican Senatorial Committee posted an AI-generated video of Platner morphing into Jackson, arguing the new nominee may not have a Nazi-linked tattoo, but he represents the “same crazy.”
Privately they’re taking him seriously. The group behind the morphing video said in a memo released Sunday that “Jackson is fully capable of winning this seat if we become complacent.”
