Four people were injured Saturday after a man allegedly drove his vehicle onto the sidewalk and struck a family in Lincoln during the town’s annual Loonfest.
A 24-year-old woman was found beneath the vehicle when the Lincoln police and fire departments responded to the scene around 3:20 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and West Broadway, according to Lincoln Police Chief Lee Miller.
She was transported by LifeFlight to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center with serious injuries, Miller said.
Three additional family members, including a 29-year-old man, a 5-year-old child and a 3-month-old child, were evaluated and treated for injuries and are expected to survive.
A preliminary investigation found that Carl Hartley, a 57-year-old from Mattawamkeag, drove his vehicle through the intersection and onto the sidewalk, where he struck the family while they were walking, Miller said.
Hartley was arrested at the scene after officers observed signs of impairment and conducted field sobriety tests, Miller said. Officers found suspected illegal drugs in his vehicle that yielded a presumptive positive result for methamphetamine. A blood sample was collected through a search warrant.
Hartley was charged with aggravated operating under the influence, a Class C felony, and unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, a Class B felony. He is being held at the Penobscot County Jail.
