The weekend fire that destroyed a Trenton motel has been ruled accidental.
The fire broke out at the Open Hearth Inn on Bar Harbor Road about 2:55 a.m. Saturday, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
By the time firefighters arrived, the flames had quickly spread throughout the motel.
Two people who were inside when the fire broke out safely escaped the flames.
The fire has been ruled accidental. But investigators were unable to determine the origin and cause of the fire because of the extent of the damage, Moss said Sunday night.
