No injuries were reported after a small aircraft flipped during landing on Green Lake Friday afternoon.
Ellsworth Fire Chief Scott Guillerault said the department received a call about the accident at 4:56 p.m. When rescue crews arrived, they found the plane upside down in the water and the pilot and passenger on shore.
The aircraft was being towed by a pontoon boat toward Champions Way, according to a statement.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection was called because there were 80 gallons of fuel on board. Containment booms were deployed as a precaution.
The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate. The aircraft owner is working with a salvage company to remove the plane.
