A Wilton man is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Maine Medical Center after he was shot by police during an armed standoff Friday afternoon.
Police received a 911 call at 1:06 p.m. reporting that Gabriele Wilbur, 34, was threatening to shoot a man doing landscaping work at 58 Cemetery Road, according to Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Wilton police and Franklin County sheriff’s deputies responded and attempted to negotiate with Wilbur, but he “refused to follow commands” and allegedly pointed a gun at police, according to a statement.
The Maine State Police tactical team and crisis negotiation team were called in.
Wilbur then confronted police, and Maine State Police Trooper Andrew Hardy and Wilton Officer Cody Henry shot him, the statement said.
Police provided medical aid to Wilbur until ambulance crews arrived and took him to the hospital.
The attorney general’s office is investigating the shooting. Both Hardy and Henry have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in police-involved shootings.
The initial complaint is being investigated by the Wilton Police Department and the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit.
