
A West Bath man allegedly stole $1,000 in quarters from a Maine business.
Shawn F. Toothaker, 47, has been charged with burglary and theft, according to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office.
Toothaker allegedly burglarized Brooks Marine Supply Co. on State Road on April 22, stealing about $1,000 worth of clothing, boots, sunglasses and other items.
Three days later, Toothaker allegedly returned to the business. This time, the sheriff’s office said, he stole $1,000 worth of quarters.
Deputies alerted banks and credit unions, as well as supermarkets with coin machines, to be on the lookout for the stolen quarters.
Toothaker allegedly cashed in a large sum of quarters at Five County Credit Union on May 2. The credit union alerted police, who identified Toothaker in surveillance footage.
Deputies arrested Toothaker at his New Meadows Road apartment that afternoon.
He was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
The investigation is ongoing.
