Maine State Police are investigating a serious single-vehicle crash that occurred around 8:45 p.m. Friday on I-395 in Bangor.
According to Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety, the crash happened when Devon Ireland, 23, of Bangor, was driving a 1992 Mazda Miata westbound near mile marker 1.
Ireland failed to make a turn and lost control of the car, which went over the guardrail and came to rest upside down across both eastbound lanes.
A passenger, Lauren McCann, 23, of Bangor, who appeared not to have been wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered life-threatening injuries. Ireland also sustained serious injuries.
Both were taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center.
A portion of I-395 was closed Friday night following the crash.
Speed and alcohol are believed to have been contributing factors, police said.
